Food Blog Reader Awards – Spreading the Love

Before I started Grubarazzi back in September 2011 I had no idea there were so many other chefs and home cooks doing this food blog thang. I thought I would surely post unnoticed, but I did it anyway because I was finally passionate about something.

Well, my obsession was set ablaze when I found actual readers and a HUGE food blogging community. Each and every one of you is so kind, thoughtful and supportive.

I mean, just look at these awards you have given me during my first year of blogging!

I am always impressed by other food bloggers and their supernatural abilities to play with food.

So, thank you Beetle Buggy, Curry and Comfort, Cookin’ Cowgirl, and Pinay In Texas Cooking Corner for showering me with reader awards since I started this fun food filled journey.

It is my turn to spread the love.

First, 10 things about me that you might not know:
  1. My birthday is in 3 days (wooop wooop). I will be 32. Not a day goes by I don’t wonder what the hell happened during the last decade. Time flew by in a frenzy.
  2. I hate listening to voice mails.
  3. I am currently obsessed with a whole foods approach to eating and cooking. I have not touched sugar, flour or processed food in at least 2 weeks. I feel awesome.
  4. I have a mini schnauzer named Austin and a feral cat named Stella. They pretend to hate each other but often share my lap.
  5. I smile like a crazy person when I run down hills.
  6. I will soon find out if I have a green thumb because I am planting my very first vegetable garden. 320 seeds are nestled happily in little green houses in the sun room.
  7. I am in school full time studying marketing and psychology. I also work full time. Hence the hobby like approach to food blogging. If I had all the time in the world…
  8. I love putting a handful of fresh mint in my berry protein smoothies every morning. Do it.
  9. I am naturally blonde, but my hair is constantly changing color, length and style. I’m currently sporting a full bang with dark chocolate locks, but I am getting the itch…
  10. I absolutely adore you!
I’m passing every single one of these awards to the following people:

Sprint 2 The Table – for always inspiring me to get 'r done!

Cooking Healthy For Me – for her enthusiasm and delicious food!

That Skinny Chick Can Bake – for tempting me on a daily basis!

Just One Cookbook – for her beautiful photography!

  5. Congrats on the award. Nice to learn a little more about you. There is nothing like running down a hill to bring out the child in you. And if you discover you don´t actually have green fingers, you can create the illusion of such by composting the plants that don´t survive your careful attention :)

  9. Congratulations on the awards and thank you so much for passing them to me. I feel very honored to receive them from you!

And...Happy early Birthday!!! ^_^ Wow your life seems very busy with work, study, and blog! My life is a lot simple just the kids and home, but still I don't know how time passes by so quickly.

I really wish I can control my intake on sugar and flour. That's two things that I think I gain weight from. I love carbs and I love sweets (even I don't bake!)... I want to feel awesome without them! You inspired me a bit. We'll see how long I can keep it up.

Thanks again, and have a wonderful b-day weekend!

Bacon Guacamole

So, here's the thing. Bacon is so played out in the food world right now. We have bacon chocolate bars, bacon oil, bacon salt, bacon print band-aids, and bacon sundaes at Burger King. There is even a small restaurant in Austin, Texas called Bacon that serves, well, everything bacon (try the the bacon doughnut...just do it). Some truly sad souls people have a difficult time understanding why bacon should play such a leading role off the breakfast table. I say everything should taste like bacon. Bring it! Here is my small contribution to our over-saturated bacon kingdom, Bacon Guacamole .   I actually shed a tear when I tasted this. You can thank me later... Grilled Asparagus Salad with Fried Quail Eggs

The Baltimore Farmer’s Market was beaming with pride as the stalls opened for the season on Sunday morning, and it has good reason to be prideful. It was recently voted #1 Farmer’s Market in the nation by Country Living.   Since it was 7:00 am after a long night out I was appropriately armed with coffee, sun glasses, and hippy-ass reusable tote bags. Asparagus has been in the forefront of my thoughts since eating a memorably crisp asparagus salad at Woodberry Kitchen . When I saw a pile of garden-fresh spears I couldn’t resist getting a few bundles for the week as well as my fair share of blue kale, foraged mushrooms, spinach, organic quail eggs, ramps, and a multitude of other goodies.   It is going to be a wonderfully food-filled week. Grilled Asparagus Salad with Fried Quail Eggs utilizes many of the seasonal ingredients I scored at the market. It’s only lightly seasoned to give the ingredients the stage. Fresh tarragon is laced throughout and the yolk from the gently fried

Green Egg Skillet Bake

Breakfast for dinner is becoming the norm. Restaurants and home cooks everywhere are serving it up in grand style. Pancakes, waffles, French toast, eggs, sausage and bacon are a special treat after a long day, but the world is craving a more sophisticated take on the classics. Bon Appétit recently featured an array of rousing recipes from Chef Yotam Ottolenghi who has a magical way with food. I was inspired by a particular recipe called “Skillet-Baked Eggs with Spinach, Yogurt, and Chili Oil.” I have not stopped thinking about it since reading the article while stuck on a hot, crowded plane a few weeks ago. It whisked me away to a happy place, and I could not wait to get home and see what I could come up with.  Ottolenghi’s technique can be found throughout the Green Egg Skillet Bake, but the flavor profile is quite different. It focuses on the richness of cumin and hearty greens which are perfectly highlighted by a liberal dose of red pepper flakes. So, who is making
